Snowmageddon Aftermath

Morning, everyone!  So as you might expect, yes, we all survived what they’re calling “Snowmageddon” in good shape.  Plenty of accumulation (and one of the Catholic schools had the roof cave in from all the snow), but I’ve seen worse.  This is what happens when you hail from near the Canadian border and the Great Lakes: when it comes to snowfall, I am hard to impress.  It always melts quickly enough down here, though it’s so cold that it may be a while yet.  It has been SUCH a snowy winter here!  The kids are off of school today, naturally.  AGAIN.  We didn’t get hit as badly as they did up by Baltimore, and we kept power, so I can’t complain about much except for the continuing canceled school problem.  The roads are definitely icy, courtesy of the sleet that pounded us for quite a while Friday night before changing back to snow.  I really need to get to the post office to mail off my line edits today (all done as of yesterday! WOO!), but I’ll be waiting a few hours, I think, for some melting.  Anyway, this is a picture of Saturday morning before it got incredibly nasty again (we had blizzard conditions all afternoon).  Brian bought a shiny new snowblower because he’s tired of shoveling the driveway!  It’s been a big help, that’s for sure.  Our driveway is really long, which is great until it gets covered.  Here are a couple of other pictures I took from the big event:

This was during the nastiest part of the storm on Saturday.  There were quite a few times we couldn’t see this house in the picture!

More blizzard from the front of the house.  I’ll admit it, it was kind of cool for a while.  Reminded me of home!  All of our old neighbors from when I was growing up were writing me during the storm, asking how their weather got down here :-)   I guess the Northern NY weathermen on TV were having a good laugh about the, shall we say, “Mid-Atlantic Panic”.  There was definitely much freak-outage.  Here’s a final pic from yesterday, because my patio table is a pretty good way to measure how much snow we got:

As you can probably tell from all the little paw prints, Brian had to shovel the deck for the dogs.  The short leg thing wasn’t working so well for them in the snow!

Anyway, that was my weekend…how was yours?

    Kendra,
I like the new design. The Snowmaggedon pictures look just like what I see out my window now too. We getting snow again today. But maybe 4-8 more. But they say it’s coming back to you. Did you break done and watch Dat SuperBowl? Yeah New Orleans Saints!!! I hope you got your edits mailed off. Brian looks like a kid with a new toy. I know. He’s The Cowboy from The Village People.

Hi Donna! Yes, it definitely looks like standard issue winter weather for the North, but for here I understand it’s been a very weird, very snowy winter. I thought I had gotten away from all of this white stuff! It’s freezing out today, yuck. I think we’re supposed to miss the worst of the new stuff headed this way, but we’ll probably get a little more. The kids seriously need to go back to school…they’re trying to drive me insane with their boredom! Did watch some of the Superbowl. The Saints definitely played their butts off…good on ‘em! LOL on Brian being one of the Village People :-) He does like the snow blower, but I’m sure the novelty will wear off quickly. It’s still work, after all!

OMG, Kendra, I’m getting goosebumps just looking at the all that snow. It looks sooooo cold! I can’t imagine having never lived the snowy life! I’m sure I would find it fascinating until I started to freeze and then that would be it for me. Love the shot of Brian clearing the driveway…but I agree-I bet the novelty of a new toy won’t last long!

Do the kids have to stay home because it’s impossible to get to the school, or is it because they’d be stuck inside all day? Just curious, really. When we have “rainy” days (yea I know, no comparison)the kids are literally stuck in their classrooom all day. They still follow the same schedule, but they eat lunch in the classroom and have recess etc. Thankfully, our little school has a lot of parent help, so teachers get potty breaks and lunch breaks, but the poor kids are stuck inside all day.

Corinne is home today. Not feeling good, but I don’t think it’s as bad as Garrett’s strep. Although, the timing is right-about two weeks, so I’ll have to keep any eye on her. Personally, I think she just needed a mental health day. She has no fever at all.

Hope you get your edits off and all goes well with that. I’m working on my diss PR email and will get that off to you sometime today.
    ;)

Wow my friend lives in Virginia and she put up a video of all the snow up on facebook XD I kept telling myself I wanted snow but I couldn’t handle this much. And not because I don’t like snow. But because drivers around here get crazy when we have too much rain XD. But glad you made it through. And woo for the line edits! Whatever that means XD

No offence Kendra, sucks to be you. One day, maybe two with the kids out and I’d pulling a Spiderman, crawling the walls! lol We also had snow over the weekend, 6 to 8 inches turned out to be about 3 inches. I ain’t complain’. Tonight though we are supposed to get up to 8 more. Should add another inch or two. I know weather is had to predict, but our weather folks accuracy, well it ain’t! Accurate that is.

Hope Brian enjoys his new toy, good pictures.

Regardless, enjoy the kids while you can, one of these days you’ll turn around and their off to college, then a home of their own, then, maybe, they move back, sometimes they bring the spouse and/or the kids! Have fun. My son knows not to ask to come back, I love, but I love him more when he’s not under foot. He’s 21 and outta my hair, more or less.

Hi Lisa! Yeah, it’s cold, but today the sun is out at least. I just got back in from watching the kids sled in the neighbors’ yard…they have a nice drop off in the back. My kids and a few of the neighborhood kids were out there, and my friend and I even managed to commandeer a sled a couple of times to go down! LOL, my butt’s wet. I haven’t done that in a long time, but it was fun! The kids are home because…I’m not sure why. The roads do have a lot of ice on them (not the main roads so much, but there are tons of secondary ones here that wind all over the place), and I guess they worry about the buses. The call came in while we were gone that school is also canceled TOMORROW. Uuuuggggghhhhh. I’m going to send them out sledding again! Does your kids’ school have a lot of open air parts to it? Is that why they’re stuck on rainy days? I guess it would be nice in the warm weather, though! Poor Corinne, I hope she feels better! I let mine have a mental health day every once in a while too if they seem to need it (LOL, I always called them that too!). Hopefully she’ll perk up tomorrow. Yay for dissing PR!

Hi Ana! A lot of snow every once in a great while can be fun. We’ve had a pretty snowy winter, though, so I’m kind of over it! The drivers here have no idea how to handle the snow. It’s scary!! Line edits are edits for pacing, structure, etc., more surgical than the “big edit” I already did. Small discrepancies need to be fixed, etc. It’s tedious, but fortunately, it’s DONE!

Jessica, I was about to crawl the wall this morning, but getting outside with everyone seems to have helped my sanity! Glad you got less snow than expected. You can always count on the weather forecasters to be wrong! You’re SO right about the kids…I was looking at my oldest out there today, and I still don’t know where my little curly-haired baby girl went! Time is a sneaky thing…passes when you’re not paying attention.

  • You sure got pounded with the white stuff! We didn’t see a flake *happy dance*.

    :)
