Sometimes They Come Back

Manuscripts, I mean, not the Stephen King story (though that was pretty good).  Any writer will tell you that manuscripts do NOT stay gone, no matter how many times you try to send them off in the mail, by email, anything.  There’s always something.  And even once you get them on the shelf, chances are you’ll have a look out of morbid curiosity and discover, much to your chagrin, that you missed something anyway.  That said, I now have, parked upon my messy desk, the line edits for RENEGADE ANGEL which are fairly pressing in nature (as in, I have a couple of weeks and they’re due…quick turnaround, which is fine).  After flipping through, I’m comfortable that there’s nothing earth-shattering that must be messed with at this point, but there are a number of items I need to address with my Red Pen of Doom.  SO, I will be absent from blogging this week while I get this stuff done.  I very much like my editor and her assistant, and I’d like to make ‘em happy :-)

Hope you all had a good weekend…my baby girl had a wonderful swim meet, making me a very proud mom (really, I stand amazed…she does things I could never do and makes them look effortless, plus she’s just a really great kid), and I’ve enjoyed having my mom in town.  I managed to watch Sleepless in Seattle yesterday with her, and only half listened to my husband’s mutterings about “chick movies” when he occasionally wandered through.  Man, I love that movie.  It’s one of my fave romantic films ever.  He’s right, though, it’s a total chick movie :-)

Have a great week, ladies!  And for fun, what are some of YOUR favorite chick movies?

  • Have fun with the manuscript Kendra!

I love “chick flicks” and have a whole long list of them, but a few of my favorites are “What Happens in Vegas” (great Ashton Kutch romance movie), “Pretty Woman” and “The Holiday” with Jude Law (he’s so cute).

    :)

God am I telling my age…Imitation of Life, Frenchman’s Creek, Gone With the Wind…300…The Ugly Truth…and yes 300 is a chick flick in my mind, it can’t be much else with all those hard bodies, all over the place!!! Besides I luv Gerry Butler!!! Have a good re-write session Kendra, don’t let the red-pen get ya down.

Hi MsM! Yeahhhh, I probably won’t have fun with it, but I will get it done! Pretty Woman is one of my all time favorites, along with The Princess Bride and Practical Magic. Total chick movies!

Morning Jessica! LOL, you may be right about 300. There certainly are a lot of mostly naked guys in it! Little something for everyone, I guess…guys must just pretend they don’t really see all of those chests!

    Walk in the Clouds
    Lake House
    Dear Frankie
    P.S I love You
    Ugly truth
and I’ll be adding Leap Year.
I’m sorry I can’t add “300″ Too much Testoterone in that one.
But I did enjoy the hunkage.
Like I told you on FB. Your daughter takes after you. A good long Stroker.
    Have a great week!!

    Hey Kendra,

Good luck with the line edits! The blog photo you used is hilarious, but don’t fall asleep on your laptop…you’ll have the key marks on your cheek! Get out the orange food you like and go to work!

I know exactly what you mean when you talk about Maddie’s swim meet! I get the same feeling when I watch my kids play soccer-especially Corinne who is so naturally athletic she is really fun to watch. I don’t know where they get it from, but I’m glad they enjoy sports as much as they do!

As for movies-I have to agree with Donna’s list. They are definitely some of my favorites and for silly fun (talk about dating myself) I pick Valley Girls and My Chauffeur.

Take it easy Kendra. C u next week.

Hi Donna! Excellent movie choices. I LOVE Steel Magnolias! Still haven’t seen Lake House…I really need to remember to see that! My daughter is a very cool kid…I only hope she has more of a brain than I did once she hits her teenage years! I wish that for both our sakes, really, LOL.

Hi Lisa! Oh, man, I really need to stay out of the orange food. I was doing really well, but my mom came, and there were snacks, and…I ate some. “Some” being a relative thing that in my case means “a lot.” *sigh* I agree on the amazement of watching athletic children! I was a figure skater for a few years, and a good cheerleader, but I didn’t have the kind of ability she’s got, or, to be honest, the kind of drive. But I love watching her! Also, OMG I forgot about Valley Girl! I heard they’re remaking that one. No idea why…they’re always ruining good movies that way!

Just sent Hero in this morning. I feel your pain!
My faves are some of the above, plus You’ve Got Mail. I love that one!
    Happy Editing!

Good luck with the manuscript and your red pen of doom Kendra. I like the picture you posted lol.

I like “chick” movies a lot. I went and recently watched Leap Year and When In Rome and both were great. I also really like Maid in Manhattan, The Wedding Date, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, 13 Going on 30, Kate and Leopold and quite a few more. I collect girly movies lol

Hi Cheryl! Congrats on sending it in! Hopefully it won’t come back…but you probably have one more round, right? Ugh, it never ends. You’ve Got Mail is another good one! :-)

Hi Ana! Yes, the picture is way too representative of certain periods of my life, LOL. I want to see Leap year! I LOVE Amy Adams! Collecting girly movies is an awesome hobby. I highly approve :-D
