Wicked Good
Morning, ladies! Shockingly, I have a topic today: bad boy heroes. See, I’m about half done with Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Night Pleasures, and am enjoying Kyrian, the leather-wearing bad boy hero who still, despite his styling himself as kind of a badass, comes off to me as the exiled prince he is. Beautiful and decadent. Anyway, I’m loving him, and then all of a sudden another bad boy roars up on his motorcycle and he’s even MORE badass than Kyrian! So of course, as with all shiny objects, I am immediately distracted by his wonderfulness. This would be Talon, who I’ll get to read about next, apparently.
This is definitely a trend in paranormal romance: the leather-clad bad boy hero. Now, I write them myself (I mean, what else am I going to do with a demon? Dress him in flannel?) but I do wonder sometimes if they’ll stay as popular as they are right now. They are, IMO, the modern day equivalent of the Regency rogue, and God knows people still read those. But I’m curious about what you all think. Do you get tired of the big bad boys in leather? Or are you happy to keep eating them up? For me, I think as long as there are interesting variations on the theme, I’m there, though I do have occasional hankerings for the straight-up knight in shining armor. I always thought of the MacInnes brothers as more brave and noble knights than anything…being able to give them fur and claws just added that element of darkness that I love. Only slightly off-topic, I’ve been dying for a good medieval lately, speaking of. Suggestions are welcome!
Anyway, what do you think, ladies? What sort of hero gets your motor running these days? Wicked, good, or just wicked good?
A hunk in leather on a motorcycle ALWAYS gets my attention!!
Then again a hunk wearing tight jeans or nothing at all gets my attention too!
That’s how it with hussies – oh the cross we bear. *grins*
I love love love the name “Talon” for a hot hunk. I’ve only know one guy in real life with that name, he wasn’t a hunk but he didn’t know that.
MsM
I want him clad in leather with 10 inches of Steaming Yummydoodle resting on his Hog. And yes Talon would do nicely. I see him, he sees me. He jumps of his Hog runs over. Can I help you across the street Mamm. No!! But you can give me a RIDE.
See ya. Ladies. Have a Nice Day!!!
Hey Kendra! I don’t think loving a bad boy will ever go out of style. I won’t speak for all women, but I would venture to guess that a large percentage of us wonder/dream/fantasize about what it’d be like to actually be with a guy like the ones we read about. Sexy, handsome, muscular men who take what they want and make no excuses for their behavior. The paranormal genre is just icing on that cake. Vamps, weres, shifters, demons, fallen angels-thank God you authors have the imaginations you do so we can have that little escape from reality.
As far as names go-yup-love them! It just wouldn’t be the same if Kyrian was Kirk or Kyle right?
You know Kendra they made Kyrian’s book into a manga. You should check it out. It’s great
Volume 1 came out in August. It’s just called The Dark-Hunters. The story of course is by Sherrilyn Kenyon and the artist is Claudia Campos I think. I’m anxiously awaiting volume 2 because seeing the story come to drawings is a ton of fun.
I get really ADD with my reading. I finished Fugitive so I went back to rereading Slave. But then Larissa Ione’s book Ecstasy Unveiled came in so now I want to go back and reread the other books. But then I picked up Pride Mates by Jennifer Ashley and want to finish that one. But I picked up a historical one called Lessons in French and now I wish I had more time to read.
Also I fell in love with Alisha Rai’s books Glutton for Pleasure (It’s a terribly good threesome XD) and Cabin Fever.
I don’t have a Nook yet but I have an ereader on my phone so I spend all my time reading a paperback or an ebook on my phone.
As for bad boys, I personally love the smell of leather. And when I think bad boys in leather I personally first go to the BDB guys from J.R. Ward. Now I wouldn’t mind imagining them in leather all the time.
Or better yet, naked. A naked bad boy is never a bad thing.
Okay I think I’ve rambled on enough. Have a great Thursday Kendra
So…I think the consensus is for bad boys in leather, then! I love them too, hope they never go out of style.
MsM, LOL at your hussies comment. yes, it’s a rough life, but someone has to do it
Also, that’s SO wrong that a guy named Talon wouldn’t be a hunk!
Donna, TEN inches? Holy crap! Then again, these guys are supernaturally enhanced, so…not unrealistic. Have a good one!
Lisa, you’re right, these guys are women’s wildest fantasies. They’re fun to read AND write…it’s no trouble imagining them, LOL!
Hi Ana! Ohhh, I bet that would be great. I’ll have to look for it! I love seeing what they come up with when they turn the book into something even more artistic! LOL at your reading ADD…I hear you on that! I love the smell of leather too. A pair of big shoulders covered in leather would also be excellent.
Though I’m sensing you all like them better naked…just a hunch
Hussies is right Ms. M, there is nothing wrong with being a book “hussie”.
Men in Leather…nope never will go out of style, just thinking about those rears caressed by leather makes me want to do some caressing of my own.
Shinning armour, nope, the idea is good, but armour has to be polished…nope, not gonna do it. Not a surf in the house and I have a hard enough time doing the dishes…
Wicked good is good. Sometimes wicked is good. Good is always good, but sometimes boring. So I vote for wicked good, it’s so bad! LOL
Jessica, I so agree. I couldn’t have put it better!!
Hi Kendra- new to this blog. I got hooked on Sherrilyn Kenyon by accident and have been stone cold PNR crazy every since. I’ve read all her books in the Dark Hunter and Dream Hunter Series — on standby for new ones. I loved the bad boys in her books so much I have hard copies and kindle versions as well so when I don’t have anything good to read or waiting for a new book to come out — I re-read!! Then there is the Brotherhood of the Black Daggers (BBD) by J. R. Ward. Another great vampire series. I’m, also, hooked on PNR authors Christine Freehan and Kresley Cole.
Now, it looks like I’m hooked on you too. I was turned onto you by chance, as well, by my daughter (Michelle) a few weeks ago who happened to meet you while the two of you were waiting for your daughters to take a test. I read an excerpt from your fist book on my kindle and was highly interested and downloaded your first and second book. I have since ordered all three books in hard copies and hope to get them autographed someday. I love all the characters — every single one– and your wit and humor is just superb. I’ve actually laughed out loud a few times.
I added your name to the PNR romance discussions on Amazon.com and got excellent feedback, as well, and that is how I found your web site and was notified that you were starting a new series ‘Fallen Angel.’ Looking forward to it.
Hi Kindle Lady!! I’m so glad you stopped by, Michelle told me you were going to give my books a try and I’d been wondering whether you liked them
I’m SO THRILLED you enjoyed them! I would be happy to autograph your books. Anytime! Hearing that I made you laugh out loud is a wonderful compliment. I mean, I laugh at my own writing, but…I’m never really sure if anyone else does
You just made my night! Nice to meet you, and I’m glad to have you as a reader!
Looking forward to meeting you too. Michelle is suppose to call and maybe set up a community book signing–we’ve turned on a few relatives and friends to your books. I’m fairly new to all this PNR stuff (2 years) and am truly amazed at the fan base. Amazon.com has a hold community discussion that’s strictly PNR Romance. I was strictly a a romance and mystery reader for most of my life (occasional non-fiction if it sparked my interest), but I get all that and more in PNR books. Meanwhile I’m awaiting your next series. Very interesting blog.
