Tuesday Tidbits

Stupidity, thy name is Kendra.

I’m a little tired today (okay, a lot) because, as a celebration of my triumph in completing 39 pages of brand spankin’ new story and sending them off to my agent to read, I stayed up until 1:30 this morning parked on my butt in front of the PS3.  The glory of all the darkspawn I slayed has not really retained its glow in the morning’s harsh light.  I did have a lot of fun, but I look like something the cat has been chewing on.  Thoughtfully.  Thoroughly.  For an extended period of time.  And I feel about as special.

The good news is that I don’t have to get out of the car this morning for drop-offs, because it’s an off day for Jack, so there is every chance that I’ll be slinking off to school in my flannel pants.  I still have too much shame to wear them when I have to get out, but I’ve gotten a lot more lenient with myself this year otherwise.  After that, I’m going to curl up with the heating pad on my back, because (I had forgotten this, or tried to, because usually the words don’t come out so fast as they have with this new story) I get involved in my work and slowly curl into the Writer’s Hunch, which inevitably leads to back and shoulder ouchies.  I don’t think it should be possible to get injuries from butt sitting.  Seriously.  How is this fair?

Oh well, at least I’ve gotten Bane and Lyra off to a good start.  Yep, those are their names.  He is, as you might guess, not from around here.  And he has markings on his skin that look like tattoos.  And he’s a dragon.  *drool*  She has Fae blood and doesn’t know it.  Working title is A Fire in the Blood.  I’m going to just keep writing on it and hope it sells, because I’m a little in love with it right now!  Of course, I need to start the dreaded synopsis today.  ::headdesk::

Before too long I think I’ll have a cover for RENEGADE ANGEL to show you all!  Spoke to my editor yesterday, and she seemed to think there was going to be a cover meeting on the book in the next week or so.  She seemed to think it might end up being one of the covers where it’s just the supernaturally gorgeous guy staring out, looking hawt.  I would definitely like that!

No other writing-related news today.  The vamp proposal I did, which I envisioned as part of a series called Vampire Dynasties, is definitely still in the pipeline and very much alive.   And this new thing is going off ASAP, because my editor, as it turns out, is going on maternity leave quite soon!  Seems like I plod along, then scramble furiously, then go back to plodding.  Ah, writing:-)

So I’m going to go drag myself upstairs now and do something about the hair.  And I know I’m probably going to play some today too, because I built a rogue, and as it happens, she’s a lot more fun than my warrior chick.  Picks locks, backstabs (literally), quick on her feet.  Totally different style of fighting and playing.  And I love that it’s a story you have to actively participate in!  But then, I had a vast collection of Choose Your Own Adventure books as a kid, so I’m not surprised this is appealing.  I like to have breaks from making my own stories and just messing around in someone else’s sometimes.

Anyway, I will leave you with a song I’ve been playing a lot since I found it, because it’s really beautiful and I love the words.  Yeah, I hit iTunes yesterday and bought a bunch of random songs…my shopping cart was full of everything from Lady Gaga to Florence + the Machine.  I had Bad Romance stuck in my head for 24 hours straight.  BUT, this song is by One Republic, who I love because Ryan Tedder, the singer, is incredibly talented.  He’s been writing hit songs for other people for quite a while now (still does), but I love when he sings his own stuff.  Such a pretty voice, and he likes arrangements with strings, something I also love.  This song, Secrets, is about how difficult it is to keep writing good songs, and the soul baring required to make that connection.  And it’s gorgeous!  Enjoy the song, and your day.

    LMAO,
You better be careful. The day you wear your Jammies is the day something unexpected happens and you will just have to get out and talk to Officer Hawty. So put on your big girl panties and jeans and heavy sweater. Run a comb through your Wild new red locks.
Gee, I’m so glad I don’t have any Video Game Machines to play with. So I don’t have that addiction. The only thing I’ve actually thought about was WII fit. I like the teaser of storyline of Bane and Lyra. HMM Dragon with Tattoo’s. I see we might have helped get your creative juices going with all the dragons and dragon tattoo’s and influences last week. LOL!!! Love the music. Have a Great Day.

Creative juices huh…Yeah Dragons will do that to ya…tattoo’s as well…ladies, really, I’m talking about Kendra’s creative rush over the weekend…or maybe it was all that talk of dragons and their tats last week….that was a blast! Way to go on the page count Kendra, I know you can keep it up, just get the heating pad out and type away!!!;)

I soooo hear you on the hurry up and wait thing and the butt-sitting pain. My pain is in the back of my thighs and calves and nothing seems to help it. I finally got my treadmill up and running, but so far, that doesn’t help, either. Guess there’s nothing I can do about it but write standing up!

Kendra, you just crack me up. I can actually imagine you sitting there, playing your PS3 with your kick ass Dragon Slaying chick/fighter! And now you have a Rogue fighter! Whoohoo! We don’t have any games like that, but I did play Legend of Zelda a bunch when that came out-yes, I’m showing my age!

Soooo excited about Bane and Lyra. Yay!

Sorry about your back-maybe you need one of those ergonomic chairs or a least that pillow thing that you strap to your chair that in turn supports your lower back. Although, I know how easy it is to hunch over your work. I do it all the time when I’m beading or scrapbooking. It’s almost like you know the end result will be so much better if you get closer for some reason. You just “feel” it more. It’s that creative thing I guess.

Lastly, you made me think of my mom this morning with your comment about wearing flannels because you didn’t have to get out of the car. My mom constantly reminded me starting in my teenage years that you should always leave the house dressed with your lipstick on (yes very much a ’50′s thing) as you never know who you might meet. I didn’t always listen and for the most part I was lucky, but damn if she wasn’t right. I’ve had several close calls. Now, though, at 46-I just don’t care half the time. :)

Love the song! Have a great Tuesday. Good luck with the synopsis.

    Ladies,
I went over to Helen Hardt’s Blog today. Something was pulling me. And OMG!!! Ladies Run over. She has the funniest Jamaican Song video about A Big Bamboo. And a Hunky Guy in the water with his Big Bamboo Pole in his hands. I think he’s very inspirational. Check it out.
I use a Lumbar Pillow to support my lower back. It helps alot. I need to shower and run up to get my hair cut. I was on the way to get it cut yesterday, but joined WW instead.

  • Hi Kendra! Congrats on the writing. The VERY first adult romance book I ever read was called “A Fire In The Blood” by Mary Kay Simmons and I adored it.
I loved the music video, I hadn’t seen that one before and like you said, its one you want to listen to over and over again.
Hope the heating pad is helping!

    :)

Well Kendra good luck with your games, heating pad, and writing lol.

I’m super excited about your next book and I always drool when I see yummy guys on the front cover.

I like One Republic a lot and Bad Romance is a song that gets stuck in your head XD

    Have a great Tuesday woo!

Hi ladies! Wow, you all have been busy over here this morning! I’ve been very lazy today. Probably a side effect of wearing so much flannel, LOL.

Donna, I totally think you all had something to do with the dragon inspiration. I am NOT writing the dragondoodle guy a thank you, though. *shudder* You’re probably right that I’m going to get nailed for driving in my almost-jammies at some point. I don’t do it all the time, but I’m sure I’m tempting fate! I checked out the Big Bamboo song yesterday and about laughed my ass off:-D

Hi Jessica! I seem to be taking the day off from writing. My back needs a break! But thanks for the faith…I’m always excited when a new story starts to take shape:-) But see, you’re all going to remember, if this is ever published, that this was the dragondoodle story. LOL!

Cheryl, I know you feel my pain! There doesn’t seem to be a good way to get comfortable. *sigh* We should invent something to fix it and make millions!

Hi Lisa! Oh yeah, I used to love Zelda too. The original one. It was so great! I really shouldn’t be having so much fun slaying things. It’s twisted. You’re very right about that weird need to get right up on top of the work. I don’t know why that is, but it’s a compulsion! LOL, you all are going to scare me into getting properly dressed in the mornings!!

Hey, MsM:- ) Oh, wow, I hadn’t even checked to see if the title was taken! Good call. I’ll leave it as is for now, until we see where it goes. I could always remove the “A” just to differentiate, if it came to it. People are always changing my titles anyway, though. Pretty cool coincidence! Really glad you like the song :-)

Hi Ana! Thanks for the luck. I’m seriously vegetating today. Very sad. I am a flannel-clad slug. I’m headed for the shower after this, actually. Bad Romance is ridiculously catchy! I do love the Gaga. I tried not to, but the music is just too fun!

    Happy Tuesday!

Ladies, I would not worry about getting caught in your flannies…ah flannels, whatever…Here in Cincinnati you would be surprised at how many people run to the store, the supermarket, the gas station, Barnes & Nobel, even in their flannies. Sometimes they even have their houseshoes on! So don’t sweat the small stuff and go in comfort!!! ;)
